So the update is that I finally found some ghost peppers. They arrived by mail today:
I had them shipped from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! after several attempts to source them locally at which point I finally gave up and started poking around online.
As you can see, I ended up getting 2 different kinds. Online they said the yellow peppers are supposed to be a little more citrusy than the traditional red. Also, when these showed up, my first thought was "I've made a huge mistake." This is because I believe I have way more pepper than I could ever use.
Regardless, I'm excited to start making the barbecue sauce then mayonnaise. That will probably commence this weekend when I've got more free time and it will give the peppers a chance to ripen up a bit.

DUDE be careful. We ordered these and a couple of us here in the shop put them in some breakfast tacos..... dude, I had a ringing in my ears for a good long while. Sticking them in a freaking breakfast taco is NOT the way to eat these lol.

My boss brought in some Ghost Peppers one day for one of my co-workers to use in some chili. My desk is a good ~15 feet away from the kitchen and my eyes were watering.

I've never had ghost peppers are they tasty or are they just all heat? For reference I believe Harbeneros to be tasty and pretty warm.

Ghost chilis (bhut jolokia) can be up to 1,00,000 scoville heat units. For comparison, habaneros top out at around 350,000. I've heard they have good flavor. I will be trying to reduce the heat a bit this weekend so that mortals will be able to try it and I'll confirm whether they in fact have flavor.

Excellent pic. I use gloves when I prepare peppers. I got some habanero in my eye one time, it was awful. I was actually on the phone with my mom at the time and she was laughing.

I sit next to Racescort at work...I've been scared for my life since the package arrived this morning. I keep hearing a sinister mad scientist sounding laugh coming from his desk.
These things even smell like firey death.
That being said I'm definitely trying the BBQ sauce on monday...you know...for science.

The huge mistake comes when you accidentally touch your face while preparing them.
You get just about long enough to utter the words before the screaming starts.

Yeah, I did this once with habaneros once. I ran my face under the faucet for about 10 minutes. It was like a homemade chemical eyewash station in my sink.

I've never had ghost chiles to my knowledge.
However, hen you get into peppers of this heat level, there's almost no flavor whatsoever. Even if there was any appealing flavor, your mouth and taste buds are reacting to dangerous levels of capsaicin and not processing other flavors (sweet, bitter, sour, etc.)
